Caracol expands its North American facility in Austin

Caracol, the Italian scale-up operating in the field of large-format additive manufacturing (LFAM), announces the opening of its new headquarters and production centre in Austin, Texas, United States.

The 900-square-metre facility triples the space available for system production and application development compared to the previous facility. This expansion reinforces Caracol’s long-term commitment to the North American manufacturing industry, enabling faster deliveries, tailor-made solutions and closer collaboration with local customers. With a local supply chain, reduced delivery times, direct technical support and co-development opportunities, Caracol is positioning itself as a leading partner for advanced manufacturing solutions in the United States.

“This new facility will enable us to accelerate innovation and provide solutions specifically designed for the North American market, where demand is growing rapidly,” said Francesco De Stefano, CEO of Caracol (pictured at the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new plant), in a statement. “When we opened our first office in Austin in 2023, it was about establishing a presence; now it’s about building capacity. This expansion means faster progress, closer collaboration with our customers, and solutions designed for their unique challenges, without forgetting our support for domestic manufacturing in the United States. As one of Europe’s fastest-growing deep tech companies, we are excited to bring the same momentum to North America.”

The new headquarters is designed to bring advanced manufacturing closer to customers. Following a 224% increase in systems delivered over the last 12 months, the facility integrates research and development, application development and large-scale production under one roof. In addition to areas dedicated to the assembly, testing and delivery of Heron AM and Vipra AM proprietary robotic platforms, it also includes an application hub for the development of specialist projects with local manufacturing companies, offering direct access to Caracol’s engineering expertise, material experimentation and product testing.

This hub is designed to accelerate co-development, enabling partners to validate new applications, optimise production processes and scale innovative solutions directly with the Caracol team. With a production capacity of up to 100 Heron AM and Vipra AM platforms per year, the site complies with ISO 9001, EN 9100 and ISO 14001 standards, as do the company’s European facilities, ensuring aerospace-grade quality, environmental responsibility and cost-efficient production, while reducing emissions and overseas shipping costs. By expanding into Texas, Caracol integrates its values of innovation and sustainability directly into one of North America’s most important industrial and technological hubs.
